Realignment
I talk a lot about coming back around to myself. But the truth is, sometimes when I get there, it is clear we need a realignment. Think about your car. If the four tires aren’t in alignment and they are all heading in a slightly different direction, it’s hard to get where you want to go. With every mile you travel, there is painful and unnecessary wear and tear.
The local auto repair shop can fix our tires, but where do we go to get a much-needed alignment on our mindset or our soul-set? I just turned 60 but age doesn’t really matter; it’s a critical issue for all women.
So this is where I’m at personally: I’m looking for a new mindset and, in turn, a new soul-set. I’m willing to do the work which involves my time, energy, vulnerability, focus, being uncomfortable, honesty, and most of all, a hunger for the new thing. And it includes Jesus; a lot of Jesus. It is HIS mindset I am after.
Romans 12:2 teaches us to, “stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total re-formation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will, as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” - TPT
Here’s another translation:
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is.” - NLT
Here’s another:
“Don’t be so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out, readily recognize what he wants from you and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to it’s level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you – develops well formed maturity in you.” - TMT
All of this speaks to our mindset. Our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being play a big role in our mindset. Thankfully, Jesus offers up his healthy and beautiful mindset to us. And as for me, I’m all about that. I’m hungry for it and I want the mind of Christ in me.
How though??? I’m so crazy busy. We just moved into our fourth house in 12 months. Yes, it’s our business but it’s been over the top! So here’s what I’ve done so far to focus on the important work I want to do on myself. I’ve made some progress and I’m encouraged. I hope some of this helps to encourage you too.
I’ve been focused, even in the chaos, on three things: love, joy, and peace. Jesus emphasizes these fruits often.
I’ve prayed for peace in every aspect of my life, in my mind and my heart. Repeatedly. Over and over. Continually.
I’ve done some work with a mental health counselor.
I’ve learned how to say a polite “no” and to not feel bad about it.
I’ve released some things that weren’t mine to hold.
I subscribe to the “Abide” app and I enjoy the sleep stories, the prayers and meditations. They help me to harness my wayward and rapid fire thoughts and to relax my body and hear the Word of God.
I spend more quiet time outside now.
I realize that I’m responsible for my own happiness.
I turn my phone off more and I limit those stupid alerts and distractions.
I am studying under John Mark Comer. His book, “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry,” and his podcast called “Practicing The Way” are fascinating and life-changing. They have helped me understand how the enemy uses distraction in order to keep me from my true self, my purpose and my Father.
I’ve decided to go deeper, not wider with my ministry and my business.
I read and write, it’s good for me.
I fully realize that time with my family is a treasure
I took a trip with my husband; we focused solely on each other and reconnected. The absence of distractions made a world of difference and a subtle but very real shift occurred for us.
But the biggest thing, the thing I want the most and my fervent hope and prayer, is to have my relationship with God be first in my life. Above and before everything else. I know that’s where my peace abides and from there, the other things will flourish.
I hope this somehow strengthens you. I know for sure that if you have a desire for a realignment, you already have everything you need. If you’d like to talk about any of this, please message me. Let’s do it together! And believe me my friend, I’m still and will always be working through this because my human nature wants to do everything all the time with everybody. But I’ve found that that’s a hard way to live. It makes it difficult to stay in alignment. It’s fun, but sometimes it’s not fun because I lose track of myself. I lose track of my real purpose, I lose track of my people and I lose track of my Jesus.
Here’s a few scriptures. Take some time to read through them and ask the Lord for clarity, for a realignment.
Philippians 2:5-11
1 Corinthians 2:16
Matthew 6:33-34
Psalm 27:4
Ephesians 3:14-21
Philippians 4:6-8
This will connect and strengthen you, it will open the pathway to a new mindset.
The mindset of Christ.
God bless you my friend.
Warmly,
Kim Gomez
